This advanced piston technology lets rebuilders equip popular engines with the ultimate in modern piston materials and engineering – while still keeping that classic engine “classic.” DIGITAL DIAMOND PROFILED ™ Pistons feature: DDP Technology Computer linear actuated (digitally controlled) diamond turning (on CNC lathes equipped with diamond-tipped cutting elements) produces the most precise skirt profiles currently possible. Barrelled Skirt Vertical Pro le • The barrel profile promotes an oil wedge – hydrodynamic lubrication – between the skirt and cylinder wall (vs. straight-taper pistons, which tend to scrape oil off the cylinder wall), reducing wear and friction. • Top and bottom of skirt profiles are designed to compensate for thermal expansion and contraction, to control contact with the cylinder wall, and to allow the piston to “roll” rather than “slap” within the cylinder, reducing noise. Oval-Shaped Horizontal Pro le • Accommodates skirt deflection while maintaining proper skirt-to-wall contact under load. • Prevents piston skirt scuffing/scoring. PRECISION performance with popular coverage. The legendary Speed-Pro ® POWERFORGED ® piston gives you powerful, precision technology engineered to perform equally well in the popular muscle cars of yesterday and the performance engines of today, from the venerable Chevy Small Block to the Ford 4-valve Modular V8 to the classic Corvair 164. Thermal Arching Compensation ™ TAC Ring Groove Geometry • Ring groove uptilt offsets thermal arching of piston at operating temperature, keeping the face of the ring square to the cylinder bore for more power and lower oil consumption. • Ring groove wave (or flatness) is held to within 15 microns (0.0006 inches) for maximum ring seal. Pinhole Form Speed-Pro pistons utilize a patented process for forming its pinholes. The result is a pinhole that is straight and square to the inner bosses with an optimized shape. Not only are both sides controlled for alignment, they are also, when needed, given a shape that reduces damaging edge loading and increases oil distribution. This shape is developed through Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to match the specific characteristics of the piston including deformations under load. Additionally lubrication of the pin is enhanced with features such as lube slots, annular grooves and cross drilling. DUROSHIELD ® Coatings • Constantly evolving application specific skirt coatings – not a “one size fits all” approach. • Offers targeted improvements for specific applications. • Coatings are formulated with the application in mind to deliver the best protection available for the engine. DIGITAL DIAMOND PROFILED ™ (DDP) PISTONS PISTONS Correctly pro led pin bores include precision-placed lube slots. Patented boring process optimizes concentricity.
